The use of Cardanit for railway operations simulation: evidence from PORTRAIT project
The study proposes the adoption of a standardized modelling language, called Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN), to graphically represent transport processes related to different operational scenarios, referring to the connections between wet and dry ports in a logistics system in Northern Italy. Modelled processes have been then simulated and optimized in order to maximize the railway capacity of the regional system at hand, and thus to suggest decision makers some recommendations to implement a performing operations model.
