Accelerate blast resistance optimization coupling process automation, variability analysis and AI-based metamodels
Occupant protection is a major challenge in military vehicle design, as outlined in the STANAG 4569 standard. Design exploration and investigation of new threats related to current conflicts make simulation essential for validating design choices before conducting costly physical tests. modeFRONTIER runs a large Design of Experiments to explore how various input variables, such as explosive charge, stand-off distance and target design (material, thickness), affects the blast response. The air blast interaction with the target was simulated using the CFD module of the IMPETUS solver. Using simulation data, meta-models were trained and then validated. This approach proved to be very relevant, as rupture and non-rupture could be predicted in 90% of cases within a few seconds.
